SCHOOL VISITS

With a background in theater and nearly two decades of teaching experience (preschool to adult), I enjoy presenting to any age, in large- or small-group settings.

The following presentations are geared toward middle and high school students. They typically run 45-60 minutes but can be modified to suit your needs and time constraints. Have something else in mind? Please CONTACT me with your ideas.

From Ideas to the Page

I'll read an excerpt from my book and explain that inspiration can come from the most unexpected places, like zombie movies and nursing homes.

Crummy First Drafts

J.K. Rowling revised the first chapter of Chamber of Secrets 15 times. Using specific examples, I'll show the evolution of a novel, from the crummy first draft to the finished product, and discuss how students can incorporate feedback and revision into their writing process. Optional: As an instructor/writing specialist at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, I can also discuss what the writing process will look like at the college-level.

Writing with Style

Designed for students who are passionate about writing, this interactive presentation/workshop will dive deep into ways students can develop style and voice in their writing.
